Dr. Henry Kaufman IV

Dr. Henry Kaufman is board certified in general surgery and is fellowship trained in surgical oncology. He specializes in the practice of general surgery and the surgical care of cancers of the skin, soft tissues and abdominal, pelvic and endocrine organs. Dr. Kaufman’s mission as a surgical oncologist is to provide cancer patients with the highest quality, comprehensive, multimodal cancer care in a compassionate and professional environment.

A native of Abbeville, Louisiana, he is a graduate of Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed a six-year general surgery residency at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Chattanooga – followed by a two-year fellowship in surgical oncology at The Ohio State University Medical Center and James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Kaufman practiced as an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the James Cancer hospital prior to commencing practice in Lafayette. His professional memberships include the American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Breast Surgeons and Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

One of the most advanced and accurate imaging methods known to modern medicine. MRI uses a powerful but harmless magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed images of specific body structures and organs. MRI has been proven effective in the diagnosis of specific types of breast cancer. An MRI is recommended for high risk patients (not just a regular screening procedure).
